Well, last Friday Catherine and I went to our first awards ceremony! This was the 2017 East Midlands Heritage Awards supported by the East Midlands Museums Service and The Mighty Creatives. We were invited to join in the fun by the Tudor Farming Interpretation Group (TFIG) a group of the volunteers who initiated ‘Peeling Back The Layers’, a community archaeology project we’ve been involved with since 2014. We also had our own VIP in the shape of the Chief Executive of the Peak District National Park Authority, Sarah Fowler.
Proof we made it!
The group and the project were nominated in the Judges Special Award which recognises museums, heritage sites, and projects that have demonstrated excellence in a particular area or broad range of categories that the judges feel deserves additional recognition. Of course we were excited at being nominated, let alone making it to the ‘final’ of such a great competition. We weren’t quite sure who we were up against, but when we saw the list of finalists, we thought we’d be no match for some of the bigger fish like Buxton Museum. So, it was a huge surprise to us to find ourselves winning a ‘Special Commendation’ from the judges!
Catherine and I would like to congratulate the TFIG on this award, and to thank them again for choosing us to help them with their project. We know there’s more to do, and we’re looking forward to working with them again!
