FitzHerbert’s and the Peak District Award Part II

The FitzHerbert C of E Primary School in Fenny Bentley have just completed the second part of the Peak District Award. The excavation is complete, the barrow is more or less there and the ground has been prepared for sowing the seeds to create their wild flower meadow. Again, the children surpassed themselves in their presentation of everything they had done and learnt.

This is what Mrs Froggatt, their class teacher, had to say about the experience:

Doing the archaeological dig in the school grounds meant that the children were really engaged and excited about what they might find.  Trying to piece bits of pottery and artefacts together – the children loved seeing an object start to form. Just being [with an] archaeologist and using the correct techniques was fantastic

All activities were very hands-on and all children were able to participate in all of the activities (at the school there are several children with special needs and all of their needs were catered for).

Catherine has a lovely manner with the children and they respond to her well.  She is an excellent speaker and the children (and staff) have thoroughly enjoyed her visits and she is very welcome to visit the school anytime.  Her chosen activities have been really well thought out and the children have been really engaged and interested.

Thank you Catherine for all your hard work and time that you have given us.”

You are very welcome and I hope to see you all during Part III!
